What is Mobile Computing(MC)?
- It is the process of computation on a mobile device.
- A set of distributed computing systems participate, connect, and synchronize through mobile communication protocols.
- Mobile computing offers mobility with computing power.
- A mobile device does not restrict itself to just one application such as voice communication.
- Mobile computing facilitates a large number of applications on a single device.
Ubiquitous computing: It means the information is available anywhere, all the time. Ubiquitous computing is based on pervasive computing.
Pervasive means existing in “all parts of a place or thing”. Pervasive computing devices are not PCs. These are handheld, very tiny, or even invisible devices which are either mobile or embedded in almost any type of object.
Mobile computing is also called pervasive computing when a set of computing devices, or networks have the characteristics of:
Transparency: means without the impact of location due to mobility, the access protocol deployed, or software or hardware component failure.
Application-aware adaptation: means adaptability to the environment.
An environment sensing ability: Environment refers to the present location, surrounding devices and computing systems, present data, available network, or software and hardware components.
